Copper Matte Egg Vase
Raku is a technique of firing pottery. Each piece is fired in a kiln outdoors until the piece reaches about 1850 F. The piece is removed, with tongs, while red hot and placed in a metal can with combustible materials, like newspaper or sawdust. The combustible material ignites, the can is covered and sealed. The fire, smoke and lack of oxygen, react with the glaze to create very unique and unpredictable colors, lusters, and patterns.
This piece is not food or liquid safe.
